Psychiatry Residency and Fellowship Programs

If you’re seeking a university based, academically focused psychiatry residency program with a strong record of success, look no further than UVM Medical Center and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Between the close-knit nature of the UVM psychiatry department, the highly skilled faculty and the amazing quality of life that you can enjoy here in this special corner of New England, this is a truly unique place to further your medical education and career.

Faculty Dedicated to Your Education

Our strength lies in our size, which promotes individual attention to each resident’s learning and continues to facilitate the building of lifelong, professional friendships. Our residents enjoy a close relationship with our faculty, who as part of a university hospital serve as medical researchers, professors and clinicians. Equally important is the fact that our faculty members are approachable, easy to work with, and committed to providing you with the mentoring and support you need as a physician in training. However, the best judge of our program is residents themselves – read what they have to say.

Psychiatry Residency Program and Child Psychiatry Fellowship Snapshot

We accept four residents into the psychiatry residency program per year. Of the four residents, two participate in an integrated five-year general/child and adolescent psychiatry program. Learn more about the child and adolescent psychiatry program. All four residents function as a single group until the PGY4 year when the two integrated residents begin full-time child and adolescent psychiatry training.

We serve the community and region with comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services. Our recently constructed inpatient units were designed with input from the mental health community, ensuring that they were built around the needs of our patients. The department also has a strong commitment to advancing the field through medical research with a focus on the areas of neuroscience, substance abuse, child wellness and psychopathology, and public psychiatry.
