Research - Anesthesiology Residency and Fellowships
Scientific inquiry is integral to the mission of the Anesthesiology Department. Our research efforts focus upon regional anesthesia and pain management, pediatric spinal anesthesia and neuro-cognitive development, intravenous anesthesia and closed-loop delivery systems, database research and post-operative opiod delivery and patient safety. Residents commonly elect to spend several months of their final year of residency performing clinical research.
Residents are encouraged to participate in clinical research. Most commonly, research rotations are arranged for the CA-III year. Residents with an interest in research meet with the department research director and research coordinator during the CA-II year. Residents may participate in an existing project, but are also encouraged to develop a hypothesis and to design their own clinical study. This latter approach has the advantage of exposure to the complete research process, including Institutional Review Board approval.
