Anesthesiology Residency Application

All Resident Programs at Fletcher Allen must participate in the National Resident Matching Program.

 All Anesthesia Residency applications are submitted via Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

 

Materials required from all applicants:
  • Application
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Dean's Letter
  • Transcripts
  • A minimum of three (3) recent letters of reference from direct supervisors
  • Successful completion of both Steps 1 and 2 of the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE)

 

International applicants must:
  • have a J-1 Visa or have a U.S. citizen Permanent Resident status. No other Visas will be accepted. (H1B visa is not acceptable.)
  • have graduated from medical school within the last two years
  • have a current certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
  • successfully completed the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA)
  • have worked in clinical medicine in the United States within the last two years
    NOTE:  an observership does not fulfill this requirement
Application components and deadline

The basic components of your application (the common application form, transcripts, and Dean's letter) must be received by December 31.

Accommodations

If you are invited to interview at Fletcher Allen and you plan to travel to Burlington, we will pay for the cost of one night’s hotel stay at the Hilton Hotel. See web site below. The Hilton will provide you with transportation to and from the airport as well as to your interview. You will need to contact the Hilton directly to arrange the shuttle to pick you up or drop you off. Hilton Hotel

 

Interview Day

The Department of Anesthesia invites applicants to interview on Wednesday’s, November through January. Your interview day will begin at 8:30am with an overview of the Anesthesia Department from our current chief residents. After meeting with the them you will interview with the Department Chair, the Residency Program Director and an attending anesthesiologist. Each of these interviews is scheduled for a half an hour. After your interviews, our residents will join you for lunch and this will give you an opportunity to ask additional questions about our program. After lunch you will have the option (depending on your traveling needs) to tour of our facilities including the OR. Typically your interview day will end between 2-4pm.
